Dawn Hemingway is Assistant Professor and Acting Chair in the Social Work Program at the University of Northern British Columbia with teaching and research interests that include aging (e.g., dementia, personhood, & caregiving), disability issues, northern/remote health and quality of life, social policy development/social action and community-based research. She is currently principle investigator for a study examining the lived experience of caregivers who have a spouse diagnosed with dementia resident in a care facility and is part of a northern research team conducting a quality of life survey for adults 55 years and older.
In addition to her role as one of the co-leaders of the BC Network on Aging Research, Dawn is President of the BC Psychogeriatric Association, Provincial Board member of the BC Association of Social Workers, the Geriatric Mental Health Education Initiative and the Seniors’ Psychosocial Interest Group. She serves on the Steering Committee of the Prince George Community Response Network, Community Planning Council and the Planning for Aging Committee - an exciting initiative with the mission to address issues arising from the aging process in individuals with developmental disabilities.
