Dr. Margaret Penning is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Research Affiliate of the Centre on Aging at the University of Victoria. Her research addresses issues of aging, health and health care. In particular, she is interested in examining self-, informal and formal care in relation to issues of chronic illness and disability in later life, the impact of structural inequalities on health and health care, and health care restructuring and reform in the Canadian context. She currently holds a CIHR grant to study “Health system change and cancer service utilization among older adults in British Columbia, 1986-2003. She is also Social Science theme leader on the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging, a co-investigator on the Canadian Initiative on Frailty and Aging, and Social Science Editor of the Canadian Journal on Aging.
