Aging Was A Hot Topic of 4th Annual Interior Health Research Conference

Aging was a hot topic this year at part one of the 4th Annual Interior Health Research Conference that took place March 27 in Kelowna, BC. Interior Health worked in collaboration with BCNAR and 5 other research networks to organize the highly anticipated event entitled "Knowledge Translation in Aging, Chronic Disease Management, and Frailty". A diverse audience of healthcare professionals and UBC-Okanagan and IH personnel enjoyed presentations from expert speakers including Dr. Chad Boult, Dr. Howard Bergman, Dr. Maureen Ashe and Dr. Michael Borrie.

Dr. Boult spoke about his current research in Guided Care an innovative, multidisciplinary model of primary care for older people with multiple chronic conditions. Dr. Borrie led an interactive session that incorporated his research on predictors of progression from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Bergman followed with a presentation on the challenges of chronic disease and aging, and Dr. Ashe ended the eventful day with a discussion on mobility, falls prevention and bone health in older adults. BCNAR was also proud to collaborate with Interior Health on the presentation of a public education forum entitled "Healthy Aging: Perspectives from the Experts"

Members of the public had the pleasure of attending this event where presenters Boult, Ashe and Borrie shared their research findings and explained how they can be incorporated into real-world settings. BCNAR looks forward to further collaborations on similar events that work to effectively increase research capacity in the area of health and aging.
