MSFHR Funding Announcement

April 27, 2009

MSFHR is pleased to announce that the Government of BC has confirmed a further $15 million in funding for the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research. This funding is in addition to the $15 million announced for the Foundation in the February 2009 provincial budget. The Foundation recognizes that in a period of economic downturn, this funding signals the government's ongoing commitment to health research in BC and the work of the Foundation.

The MSFHR Board of Directors met April 2 and made a series of decisions about Foundation programs, based on funding available and the strategic planning process that is due for completion in summer 2009.

Based on this additional funding the Health of Population Research Networks, including BCNAR, have been extended by an additional six months to March 31, 2010, and then funding will cease. The Foundation hopes to announce a new network program, open to new and previous applicants in the fall of 2009 with funding to commence April 1, 2010.

BCNAR is keen to continue and is looking for your input. Please contact our Network Coordinator, bsymes@bcnar.ca for further information on how you can assist to ensure YOUR network will continue past its current funding mandate.
